In its austere cubic shape, the Crater table lamp captures the equilibrium forces of rotating solidified concrete. The subtle strata visible on its surface are the remnants of this initial movement, forever frozen.
During manufacture, the mould that contains the concrete rotates around its vertical axis until it solidifies. Watch the video.
The rotation creates a parabolic-shaped crater in the centre of the cube, a surface that bears witness to the gravitational and centrifugal forces in play. Once solidified, it is gilded with genuine gold leaves and used as a reflector for the bulb placed in its focal point.
The brutality of its surface contrasts with the perfectly smooth surface of the outer faces of the cube.
